Leika Mochán

Musician and singer specialized on vocal ensembles and live looping. Since her childhood she has explored how to use the voice as more than just a melodic solo frontal instrument. Strongly influenced by world music, jazz, soundscape and experimental music she creates original pieces and arrangements with a very personal and distinctive touch. Since 1997 she has musicalized dance, theatre, circus, video, cabaret, and collaborated in various performing encounters. She has traveled throughout Mexico, Europe and South and North America with her various musical groups. She´s a pioneer of live-looping in Mexico and performs her music by herself, accompanied by a wide variety of instrumental line ups or on a bicycle riding throughout town and improvising songs with samples taken from townfolks she records on the spot. She is also co-creator of the installation Erosional in which science and art merge thru water, sound, light and movement.
