Inspired by the mystery of life, Jack Hertz manipulates sound to create intangible techno-organic impressions between music and noise. Composing and recording music for more than 30 years. Jack is always searching for a sonic middle ground between the real and the artificial. He utilizes machines, instruments, found objects, field recordings, and effects processing to designs sounds, spaces, and atmospheres for deep listening.
Jack is a seasoned improviser who finds all aspects of creating sound fascinating – from the early percussion instruments to the present day hardware and software innovations. By trade, Jack is a professional software architect, developer, expert electronic music synthesist (digital and analog), visual artist, and composer having published more than 150 full-length albums of his own work. He performs regularly on the West Coast and most recently was a guest artist at notable shows such as the Raymond Scott Festival and the Synthplex electronic music convention. More on his music and upcoming events is available at JackHertz.com
Jack is an alumnus the Middle Tennessee State University, University of Maryland, and Montgomery College where he earned his degree in Computer Science. He is the founder of the thematic music label Aural Films that creates soundtrack for the real and imaginary. He is also the Founder of Sound For Good Records, that uses the power of sound for good causes. Planting over 10,000 trees to date with music. Currently he is working to archive all things Electronic Music on the Encyclotronic.com project.
Currently working on a few music related projects focused on soundtrack music (AuralFilms.com), planting trees with sound (Sound4Good.bandcamp.com), and documenting all things Electronic Music (encyclotronic.com). Through these efforts we planted over 10,000 trees, staged the first San Francisco Fog Music Festival in 2015 and have documented 1,000s of original Electronic Music Instruments, Applications, Books, Albums, and Films on the Encyclotronic with more than 25,000 visitors/month.
