Cora Laba

Cora Laba is a singer, songwriter, sound artist, poet, and improviser. Deeply inspired by her natural and social environments, she views her creations as a form of “geo-poetics”—a sonic vow to honor both the beauty and the vulnerability of creation.

She grew up in the French Alps, lived in Paris, spent two years in Kyiv-Ukraine-, witnessed two springs in Greenland, and has now found a home on the island of Corsica. These places have shaped her artistic eras: She explored a chapter of creation “ICE”, inspired by the glaciers of her childhood. Then “FIRE”, with the Ukrainian revolution and war that crossed her path. And very recently, opens a new chapter :“LOVE”

Her roots lie in the collective performing arts (theater, music, and dance), having collaborated with the vocal ensemble Crise Carmen and the Orkestronika collective, and today in trio with Cora Laba & the Modern Cats. However, as she began moving between countries and carving out a solo path, she discovered the beautiful generosity of live looping. It became the perfect vehicle to map the lush, intricate landscape of her personal musical universe. Today, her looper is an organic extension of her vocal cords—a tool to mold vocal material with effects into an electro-organic soundscape.

She was delighted to performed in the Y2K19 Loop fest with her duet Warria Magda and a bunch of instruments. For the Y2K26 Loop Festival, she is challenging herself to travel light. She will take the stage only with her voice, her RC-505, perhaps a few tiny sonic objects gathered along the road… And certainly some poetry written along the days.
