Writing music live is quite a magic trick, and one that George Cochrane (AKA Give In) is always evolving.
After years of meticulous studio work, Give In was tired of spending 40+ hours on a song. As a long-term “live PA” artist in the Bay Area electronic music scene, his eyes soon turned to that table full of gear.
Instead of jamming on pre-written songs, what if we just wrote them live one track at a time? What if we live-looped bass and vocals on top, and dub-mixed the whole thing? Could we make shows that sound like DJ sets, only with brand-new music every time?
Turns out, yes. Over 300 performances later, Give In is able to improvise unique sets of music in whatever genre suits the occasion, from Ambient to Techno to Downtempo to Future Bass and beyond.
